How Can I Reduce Snipe When Planing Short Boards?

I'm using a Dewalt DW735X planer to work on a small box and I'm planing some 3/8" stock. However, I'm running into snipe issues, especially since my pieces are only about 8" long. I've set up the outfeed side to be slightly angled to help with this, but I'm looking for ways to further reduce the snipe I'm experiencing. Could the short length and thinness of the boards be contributing to the problem? Would using a planer sled help with this? I'm pretty new to woodworking and would appreciate any tips!

Your pieces being only 8" long is likely causing the snipe issue. One effective method is to feed some scrap wood ahead of and behind your actual workpiece. This way, the snipe affects the scrap instead of your good material. It helps provide a smoother entry and exit for the short boards.

Got it! I suspected the short length might be the issue but wasn't sure about the solution. Thanks for clarifying!
