Should I dig up my lavender due to poor soil or just leave it be?

I think I might have planted my lavender in some bad soil, and I'm wondering if I should dig it up or just let it grow. I'm in Zone 7a, and I'm a bit worried about the soil quality.

I used to deal with clay soil, and it can be really tricky! Even in what I’d call decent soils, I mix in some sand to help out. Lavender loves sandy, well-drained conditions! I’d suggest removing any mulch too. My lavender thrived in sandier soil. Also, does your lavender get good sunlight? Looks like it’s near your house, so take that into account.

Thanks for the advice! It’s on the NW side of the house, so it gets some afternoon sun, but not a ton.

Lavender doesn’t thrive in rich, moisture-retentive soil—it prefers a drier environment. From what I can see in the picture, it looks fine to me!

Yeah, it’s mostly the moisture I’m worried about. The soil is so dense that it stays wet for days after it rains, even when it's sunny and warm.

This actually helps me with a question I didn’t even realize I had! Thanks a bunch!

In my experience, the best soil for lavender is loose and sandy. Soggy roots are a definite no-no for this plant!
