How to Get Rid of Sticker Weeds in My Backyard?

Hey everyone! I just moved in and my backyard is a bit of a mess. There's an area where an old pool used to be, and it's completely overrun with sticker weeds. I've got a kid and some dogs, and I really don't want them playing in that area. I'm planning to start a garden soon—thinking of planting creeping thyme or something similar—so I want to avoid using harsh chemicals that could damage the soil. Does anyone have tips on how to safely remove these pesky weeds?

I totally understand your frustration! I wouldn't recommend doing anything harsh to the soil. Instead, grab some heavy-duty gloves and start by removing the weeds with a shovel. Rake them into a pile, and if they're stubborn, a bow rake might help too. Keeping an eye on when they start regrowing will be key—you want to catch them before they produce seeds! Good luck!

Just make sure you’re careful with the roots; they can spread! If you let them go too long, you might end up with a bigger mess.

Exactly! It's all about catching them early and preventing them from seeding.

I've been battling sticker weeds for years. Honestly, the best method is to pull them up by the roots. It takes time, but be diligent and you'll see progress! You might want to check your shoes after working in that area too; those stickers can latch on and spread!

To tackle those sticker weeds, you'll want to start by pulling them up before they go to seed. Consider watering the area a couple of hours before you begin to loosen the soil, making it easier to pull them out with their roots intact. Keeping the weeds mowed will also help prevent them from forming new stickers. It's a bit of a chore, but it definitely works over time!
