I've heard that even after sanding and applying Kilz primer, some people still experience oils bleeding through their cabinets before painting. Is this a common issue, or could it be due to insufficient sanding? Also, would using a low-odor stripper help minimize this problem? Are there any specific brands of cabinet paint that are particularly recommended? Lastly, how can I get out of home improvement projects that my wife suggests?

You shouldn't have any issues with oils or tannins bleeding through if you properly degrease your cabinets and use a shellac-based primer. The bad stories you hear are usually from folks who just grabbed 'Kilz' from Home Depot without realizing that it's a brand, not a one-size-fits-all solution. And if you want an easy out on the home improvement suggestions, just say the internet thinks it’s a bad idea and see how that goes!
