I recently had a discussion with a company that installs frameless shower doors. They mentioned that keeping the door open could damage the hinges over time, particularly the plastic inserts. They recommended keeping the door closed except when entering or exiting the shower. However, I checked with the hinge manufacturer, and they told me that it doesn't really matter if the door is left open or closed. I'm curious what everyone else thinks about this!

We had our frameless door installed about a year ago, and we used to leave it open a lot. Eventually, we needed to put in a stop because the weatherstrip stopped keeping it closed. I’d definitely recommend keeping it closed and just running the exhaust fan longer.
It seems like the hinge itself isn't a big deal, but leaving the door open could make it more prone to accidental slams, which could lead to damage over time. Probably best to keep it closed.
That totally makes sense! Better safe than sorry with the wear and tear.
From my experience, when the door's open, it can put sideways pressure on the hinges. If they’re not designed well, that could lead to wear down the line. Most should handle it fine, though.

I wish our installers had warned us about that, too!
