Can Ozone Generators Help Get Rid of Cigarette Smell in My Home?

I've been smoking in my kitchen about once a week for the last few months, and now I notice the smoke smell is lingering in my house. I've read that ozone generators might help eliminate the odor, but I have a few questions I hope you can clarify. First, does ozone actually break down tar or nicotine residue on surfaces like my porous wooden floors? Second, will it help with smoke trapped in fabrics like my carpet and jackets? Lastly, if I keep smoking indoors occasionally while using an ozone generator and airing out the space, can I expect to maintain a smell-free home? I know smoking indoors isn't ideal, but I'm looking for some solutions here!

Ozone can definitely help get rid of the smell, but using it regularly isn't great. While it can break down the compounds causing the odor, it can also damage other materials like plastics and fabrics. If you use it too often, those items can become brittle and break down. I've seen some horror stories with car interiors that had ozone generators running too long!

Ozone does help with smoke odors, but you've gotta be careful. It's harmful to both humans and pets, so make sure nobody's in the house while it runs. It also breaks down materials over time, which can ruin things like gaskets or foams. If you can, try smoking outside instead; it's the easiest route to avoid those lingering smells!

As for your specific questions: 1) Ozone won't effectively clean tar from surfaces; you'll need to wash them with something like TSP for that. 2) I've found it doesn't really eliminate smoke from textiles, either. 3) If you clean everything thoroughly and use the ozone generator, you'll have a better chance of controlling the smell, but don't stay in the room while it's running—O3 isn't safe!
