I'm looking to replace an old door from a prehung installation, but I'm puzzled by the different widths. The new 30-inch single doors are indeed 30 inches, but my existing door measures 29.75 inches. Interestingly, new prehung doors are also listed as 29.75 inches. These doors come from the same manufacturer, so I'm confused about why there's a size discrepancy. Can I find a new 29.75-inch door without having to buy an entire prehung setup?

Another option is to just look for the right size door from a different manufacturer. If that doesn’t work, you could buy the prehung door and just skip reusing the frame if that suits your needs better.
Honestly, it’s often not worth just replacing the door slab alone. Different manufacturers have various sizes and hinge placements, so replacing everything at once ensures a better fit. But I totally get wanting to keep the existing frame to avoid extra work!
I just wrapped up that room and really don’t want to change the trim. By the way, these doors are from Home Depot.
