How to Start Woodworking as a Complete Beginner?

Hey everyone! I'm completely new to woodworking and have no prior experience, but I'm eager to learn and hopefully make it a hobby that I can enjoy during my time at Camp Canada next year. Before I dive in, I have a few questions I could really use help with:

- What essential woodworking terms should I familiarize myself with?
- Which types of wood would be best for a beginner?
- What tools are absolutely necessary to get started without spending a fortune?
- Any general tips or common pitfalls I should watch out for as a newbie?
- Lastly, what techniques should I focus on to improve my skills and create better projects?

A great way to start is by picking an easy project and just jumping in! You’ll learn a lot as you go along. Also, remember that the tools you need vary depending on your project; for example, making a simple cutting board might not be too complicated with hand tools, but for something more intricate like a cabinet, you'll definitely want to have the right tools without draining your wallet. Start with a project in mind and we can help you figure out the necessary tools.

Totally agree! Picking a project first helps to narrow down which tools you'll need for that specific job.
