I'm looking to install two small 4-inch pieces of trim around the corner wall next to my shower, but I'm hesitant to use nails since I'm worried about splitting the wood. My plan is to use wood glue at the corner and then secure the trim with a strong adhesive to my acrylic latex painted wall, sealing the edges to prevent water damage. Has anyone successfully done something similar? What sealant or adhesive would you recommend for the best adhesion and durability?

If you want extra durability, counter-sink a screw into the stud and then plug it. It's super strong when done right and won't be noticeable once painted. Plus, gluing is still a great approach if you’re not looking for visible fasteners!
Using construction adhesive should work perfectly for your trim job. If you're really worried about it staying in place, you might consider pre-drilling some tiny holes or using brad nails that won’t split the wood. Just caulk and paint afterward for a clean finish!
I've had great success with Titebond 2 for gluing all my trim miters together without any fasteners. I usually build and assemble them in my shop to get those perfect 90-degree angles before painting. I haven't had a single crack, even on tricky double doors! So if your walls are flat and you're working with short pieces, just some good adhesive should hold up nicely.
Liquid Nails is a solid choice here. Seriously, avoid using wood around the shower. You definitely want something that can handle moisture well!

Thanks for the advice! I’ll consider the brad nails if I change my mind about the adhesive.
