I need to shorten a downspout, but I'm not sure if I should be buying right, left, or straight tin snips for the job. Can anyone give me some advice on the best tools to use for this?

If you really want to use snips, go for pipe snips specifically; they're better suited for that. But generally, a saw or grinder is advisable. If you’re looking to buy snips, you might want to get a complete set for different jobs.
A miter saw is actually a great option if you have one available! It makes the job a lot quicker and ensures a straight cut. If you don't have a miter saw, a hacksaw would work just fine too.
Instead of tin snips, I’d recommend using a hacksaw or an angle grinder for cutting your downspout. They give a much cleaner cut and are generally easier for this type of job.
