I'm looking for recommendations on the best container soil mix for planting, specifically from stores like Home Depot, Lowe's, or Walmart since those are the ones I have access to. I need a mix that drains well but retains some moisture, as I live in South Florida and sometimes forget to water for a few days. I'm just filling up smaller containers to place around my yard and want to avoid any hassle. Any suggestions?

I also live in South Florida and I use a mix that works great for my garden. I do 10 parts Miracle-Gro Potting Mix (the yellow bag), 10 parts Timberline Compost, 5 parts Sphagnum Peat Moss, and 2 parts Coarse Perlite. It keeps the moisture and drains well!
I go for the organic Kellogg raised bed mix from Home Depot and mix it with some free municipal compost, perlite, and a bit of garden tone. It works really well for me!
I’ll have to try that! Sounds versatile, especially with the compost.
Honestly, anything with perlite is a good option. It helps with drainage but still holds enough moisture. Just mix it with some good compost and you're set!

That sounds like a solid mix! How often do you find yourself watering with that?
