Help! New Jade Plant Owner and Feeling Anxious About Its Care

I recently received a beautiful jade plant as a gift from work, and I've got to admit I'm a bit nervous about taking care of it. I've had succulents before that were pretty low maintenance, but this one is a little different. I've been watering it every 4-5 weeks by soaking it, but I've never used this type of soil before—I'm accustomed to a mix of regular and cactus soil. Now I'm worrying because it's dropped about four leaves in the six months I've had it, mainly from the bottom, and I'm not sure if that's normal. Should I think about repotting it to change the soil? Also, I've noticed the white spots on the leaves probably come from the watering. Any tips or advice would be really appreciated!

Hey there! First off, your jade plant looks gorgeous! My jade thrives when I let her soak up some sunshine, so definitely find a bright spot for it. I've learned that it's best to water only when the leaves feel slightly soft—you don't want to overwater it, as that's a common issue. If you're thinking about repotting, mixing in some non-organic soil can help with drainage. Just keep an eye on it, and you should be okay. Good luck!

Totally agree! I've found that a good light setup and letting them dry out really does wonders. My jade is super happy in a sunny spot by the window.

I think the white spots are just the plant's way of shedding excess minerals. But I would consider amending the soil if you're worried about drainage. A mix of about 50% organic should do the trick! Just make sure to let the plant guide you on when it needs moisture. Better to underwater than overwater!

Yes! I've done the same, and my jades are thriving. It's kind of amazing how resilient they are as long as you pay attention to their cues.

The dropping leaves can be alarming, but it's often just part of the plant's normal shedding process. Just keep an eye on the overall health of the plant. As long as it's not dropping too many leaves, you should be okay! And those white spots? Pretty common, just excess minerals from water.
