I'm curious about the bare minimum soil depth I can use for my String of Pearls plant. I'm thinking of making a shallow homemade planter, but I want to know if it can actually thrive with that setup. Also, are there any other succulents that would work well in a similar shallow depth and have comparable watering needs? Thanks in advance!

String of Pearls are pretty adaptable and can handle a shallow, wide pot for some time. However, like most plants, they'll eventually fill the space with roots. If you're careful with watering, you should be okay! Just keep an eye on how fast the water evaporates in a shallow setup.

Excellent, thanks!
