I'm diving into soil blocking for the first time this year, and I've got tons of free wool from my neighbor that I want to utilize! I'm trying to keep my costs down as much as possible. Does anyone have a go-to recipe for incorporating wool into soil blocks? I've come across one from ForksInTheDirt that I'm considering, but I'm planning to skip the bone and blood meal. Here's what I'm thinking for the mix: 3 parts coco coir, 2 parts wool pellets (which I'll replace with finely shredded wool), 2 parts compost or 1-2 parts worm castings, and 2 parts perlite. I'm working with 2" blocks.

Sounds good for seed starting! Just keep an eye on moisture levels so it doesn’t get too soggy. I’ve heard that can be a tricky balance with wool.
That recipe sounds pretty solid! I've also been thinking about using wool in my soil blocks. Instead of perlite, I'm leaning towards vermiculite since I feel it might give a better start for seeds. Just a heads up though, the price of perlite in my area is much lower, so it really depends on what's available to you!
I initially thought about using vermiculite too, but the suggested recipe called for perlite. Since perlite is cheaper where I live, I'm going with that for now!

Definitely! I'm planning to watch some videos from Blossom and Branch Farm since they have great tips on soil blocking. I'm hoping to get the hang of keeping it wet but not overly soggy.
