How do I finish my basement stairs without an exit?

I just installed new oak treads and risers on my basement stairs, but I'm stuck on how to finish the wood since my basement doesn't have an exit. Should I try to finish while going backwards up the stairs, which seems risky, or is it better to do every other step and then return the next day to finish? Any tips would be appreciated!

Doing every other step is definitely the way to go! It helps prevent any accidents since trying to finish while going backwards could be tricky and unsafe. Just remember to start from the top or the bottom to make it easier for yourself!

Yeah, I totally agree! Starting from the top gives you a clearer view and less risk of slipping.

Exactly, plus that way you can let the steps dry without stepping on them again!

I’d suggest finishing every other step too. If you're feeling adventurous, you could even stay in the basement until they dry. Just don’t forget to bring snacks!
