Hey everyone! I just bought a new house that's at the bottom of a hill, and I'm dealing with some serious drainage problems. Whenever it rains, water runs down the hill and collects right in front of my deck, leading to some seepage into the basement walls. I'm thinking about starting with a swale or a berm near the bushes by the deck. If that doesn't work, I might consider tearing down the deck to install a French drain by the foundation. What do you all think? Am I on the right track? Any tips or insights would be super helpful! Thanks!

You’re definitely thinking in the right direction with the French drain or berm. I’d also suggest looking into some deflection options to prevent water from heading towards your house in the first place. Maybe a small barrier or retaining wall could do the trick? That way, if you ever have to replace the deck, you can run a French drain and seal the foundation effectively.
A sump pump sounds like a solid idea to me! It can really help manage any water that gets into the basement walls. I had to deal with seepage before, and that setup worked wonders for me!
That makes perfect sense, thanks for the suggestion!

Great idea! Would you recommend placing that barrier in front of or behind the swale?
