What’s the Cheapest State to Buy Windows for Renovation?

I'm currently renovating my house in New Jersey and just received a pretty pricey quote for new windows. I'm curious if anyone knows which states might offer cheaper window prices. I've heard that some places may not have sales tax or overall lower construction costs. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Check out Milgard windows at Home Depot. They offer custom sizes, and if you sign up for a pro account, you can get them at a discount. Just be cautious about who installs them; DIY can sometimes save you more!

Good tip! I definitely want to avoid HD’s installation service, especially if there might be a better way to go about it.

If you're in New England, consider buying in New Hampshire since they have no sales tax. It’s a popular destination for folks looking to save some cash on windows!

True, but Delaware might be a more convenient option if you're closer to that area. Just remember, you technically should report any out-of-state purchases on your taxes, even if people rarely do.

As a contractor, I can tell you that a significant portion of the window cost comes from labor. For example, if a window costs around $300-400, the installation, which involves removing old windows, putting in the new ones, and doing the finishing touches, can cost just as much. So, buying windows at a lower price won't help much unless you also get a good deal on labor. It's something to keep in mind while comparing prices across states!

Thanks, that's helpful! I've got the installation quote covered, so I'm looking mainly for where to buy them cheaper without the high tax.
