I've seen this question pop up before, but I'm looking for some fresh insights. I'm trying to figure out how the Gen 2 M12 Fuel Stubby Impact Wrench compares to the Gen 3 M18 Fuel Compact Impact Wrench. From my own limited use in the driveway, I haven't faced any issues with the M18 Compact. I usually prefer smaller tools if they meet or even surpass my needs. The M12 Stubby has been around for a while now, so I'm curious: how do they stack up in real-world use? Does the M12 actually have similar or more power compared to the M18? Are there any downsides to either model? And is there a good reason to stick with the M18 if I don't own an M12?

From what I understand, the M12 Gen 2 with a 5Ah battery actually has around double the torque of the M18. So if you’re looking for power, the M12 might have the edge, especially for lighter tasks. But the M18 offers more versatility and it's a bit heavier, which could be a con if you need something more portable. If you’re just using it for basic things around the house, either tool could work well for you!
