Need Ideas for a Portable Fence for My Craftsman Table Saw

Hey everyone! I've been working with an old Craftsman King Seeley table saw that I've had for years. I even made a video about it, but honestly, the music is pretty annoying, so you might want to mute it! Anyway, I have two versions of this saw, one shown in the video and another on its factory stand. I use a factory fence and throat plate between the two saws, but the fence is not great. It has some deformation and is quite inadequate for my needs.

I'm looking for fence ideas that are portable, can be easily removed for crosscut operations, and are low profile since one saw is under a workbench. My main requirement is minimal extra width beyond the table's 16". I do rustic and rough carpentry; fine-tuning isn't necessary for me. Right now, I'm considering a clamp-style fence with a rear clamping bit that allows for quick adjustments. I've also thought about using a linear slide for the guide rail, but that wouldn't be removable enough. Any advice or creative suggestions?

Hey there! It sounds like you need something versatile for your saws. Have you considered making a removable clamp-style fence? You can get a threaded adjuster on the rear clamp to quickly adjust for your different saw heights. It’s great for portability and easy to use. Plus, it won’t take up too much space!

Thanks for the suggestion! I think a clamp-style fence is the way to go for me. I just want to make sure it doesn’t interfere with the low profile of my setup.

I hear you on the low clearance issue! Have you thought about building a simple sliding fence that you can attach and detach easily? You could use some lightweight materials to keep it portable. That way, you can adjust the height and width as you need without any hassle.

I love that idea! A sliding fence would definitely help with adjustments. I might experiment with lightweight materials to keep it practical.
