How Can You Grow Plants in Really Windy Areas?

I'm curious about how to manage growing plants outdoors when you're in a super windy area. Currently, we're facing a high wind warning with gusts reaching up to 50 mph over the next couple of days. Is that too much wind for hardening off seedlings on my porch?

Definitely hold off on hardening your seedlings during those gusts! I usually start by acclimatizing mine indoors with an oscillating fan on low. Just enough wind to gently move the leaves. Once the high winds pass, and if it's warm enough, your seedlings should be fine to go outside.

A greenhouse can really help out, but be careful! I've dealt with 25 mph gusts, and it completely wrecked my greenhouse. Had to run after my empty nursery pots all over the woods!
