Hey everyone! I'm looking for advice on a house I'm considering for my first home purchase. It's located in a fantastic neighborhood but has cinder block walls both inside and outside, which gives it a rather institutional vibe. I've heard that concrete blocks aren't great for insulation, so I'm wondering what my options are for covering them up to make the place feel more like a regular home. Also, any thoughts on the costs involved would be super helpful! Here's a link to an image of the house: https://imgur.com/a/PcQJEaO

I had a cinder block house before and what worked for me was adding stucco on the outside and a textured finish inside. It really helped give the space character and a more traditional feel! It's definitely worth considering.
You can definitely drywall over those cinder blocks. Just keep in mind that you'll need some furring strips to attach the drywall to, which will add a bit of thickness to your walls. And yeah, this isn't a cheap project—you're looking at carpentry, drywalling, and finishing touches like paint and trim. If you're considering tile, it might end up costing more in the long run. Just weigh your options!
A solid plan would be to create a moisture barrier on the outside, add some furring strips, then put up rigid foam insulation, and cover it with drywall. It'll make a big difference in comfort and appearance!
That sounds like a great approach! Just wondering, do you think the insulation will help with heating bills?

Totally agrees! Drywall will make a huge difference aesthetically, but keep in mind the labor costs if you’re hiring out. Doing it yourself can save some bucks, but it is definitely time-consuming!
