Can I charge a 12.8V lithium battery with 18-20V solar panels?

I'm curious about what would happen if I used a solar setup with 18-20 volts (that's two panels in series and two in parallel) to charge my 12.8V lithium battery. Also, will a solar charge controller automatically adjust the output to the 12V that my battery needs?

Yeah, you can definitely do that, but make sure you use an MPPT charge controller. It’ll regulate the voltage to charge your battery properly based on what you program it for!

Solar charge controllers are designed for this purpose—they manage the charging process. Just verify you get a 12V MPPT controller. Watch out for cheap PWM controllers that claim to be MPPT; they can be misleading.
