Is it Safe to Rip a Cedar Board Taller than My Table Saw Blade?

Hey folks, I have a cedar 1x4 board that's about 1/2" taller than the maximum height of my table saw blade. I'm wondering if it's safe to rip it like this. I know I would need to make two passes, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on the best way to do this safely.

Sure, it’s absolutely doable! Just ensure the board is completely squared up with both your jointer and table saw. If it’s not, you could end up with some unwanted surprises during the cut.

Yeah, it can be done! Just make sure your blade is set perfectly at 90 degrees before starting. Take it slow and watch out for any potential kickback when you cut. Safety first!

Thanks for the tip! I'll double-check the blade before I start.

If you're a bit concerned about safety, try leaving about half an inch uncut in the middle. Then you can finish it off with a hand saw. This way, you don't risk having a kickback situation with a long, thin piece flying back at you.

Honestly, cutting a 1X4 that thin is probably better suited for a bandsaw rather than a table saw. It can be tricky and not the safest option. Just something to think about!
