What beginner to intermediate robotics/IoT project should I tackle?

I'm new to IoT and robotics and I'm looking for a fun and educational project. I'm currently trying to build a flight controller for a drone, but I'm also interested in creating something practical like a robotic car or even a tank. What projects would you recommend for someone at my skill level that can help me learn more?

Last year, my kid built a wheeled robot for their first robotics class, and this year they're working on a hexapod! It involves using breakout boards, I2C communication, inverse kinematics, and remote control—definitely a step up! If you want something practical, maybe start with a robotic car since it can help you learn about motor controls and remote operation, then move to more complex builds like a hexapod later.

You could definitely learn a lot from YouTube tutorials and hands-on experimentation! Courses on platforms like Coursera or Udemy are great too, but a lot of beginners start off just by playing around with projects at home. If you feel stuck or need more structure, then taking a course could help, but keep in mind that projects can teach you just as much.
