I'm living in a room right above my garage, and whenever someone opens the garage door, it shakes the floor and creates a lot of noise that wakes me up. I'm considering options like swapping the chain for a rubber belt or changing the motor from a ceiling mount to a wall mount. What's the best approach for reducing this noise, and could anyone provide an idea of the budget I should plan for?

Switching to a belt drive opener is one of the best improvements you can make. It might not eliminate all noise, but it will be a huge difference compared to what you have now.
Definitely go for a belt drive and consider nylon rollers, maybe even some rubber mounts to isolate the motor. Wall-mounted openers can be more complex, but they might not help as much as you think.
If you're looking at a full replacement, think about changing the entire lift mechanism. A wall-mounted system might allow for better noise and vibration isolation.
Just adding white lithium grease to the moving parts can significantly reduce noise. It's a quick and cheap fix!
I made the switch from chain to a belt drive and swapped out steel rollers for composite ones, and it dropped the noise by more than half. It's wild how much of a difference it makes!
When we replaced our old garage door motor, which was about 18 years old, the new one was so much quieter. We couldn't even hear the old one inside the house. I'd recommend checking how old your current setup is and possibly replacing it for a great sound reduction.
