Should I Go Ahead and Plant My Cherry Laurel?

I just bought a cherry laurel for my garden because it looks nice, but now I've found out that it has a bunch of warnings about being poisonous and invasive. As a newbie gardener, I'm wondering if I should plant it in the ground or keep it in a pot! What do you think?

The leaves do contain small amounts of cyanide, so it's smart to use gloves when handling them. They can be invasive, but if you just pull out any seedlings you see, you should be fine. Lots of folks use them as hedges since they can be shaped easily. If you decide to keep it, just know it can grow quite tall, so regular pruning is key!

Yeah, cherry laurels are invasive, but honestly, many common plants can be too. If you have kids, watch out for the berries. If you don't, just make sure to wash your hands after touching it. But honestly, if you can, I'd suggest returning it and picking something else that's safer for your garden.

Great advice! It’s better to be safe and choose a plant that's more garden-friendly. Avoid my mistake with Russian Vine!

From what I've seen, cherry laurels can be quite a pain. They spread a lot and can take over native plants. I wouldn’t recommend planting it in your garden. Instead, you might want to keep it in a pot if you really like it. Just remember, those things can grow really big!

Totally agree! They come up all over the place and can really outcompete other plants. I'd steer clear of anything that invasive.
