Water Heater Troubleshooting: Is My Breaker the Problem?

Hey everyone! I'm having some trouble with my water heater. I've already replaced both the heating elements and the thermostats, but it's still not working. After some testing, I found that one of the hot legs is showing no voltage (OV), while the other leg is at 120V. I'm not super knowledgeable about electrical systems—just the basics and safety. Do you think this is a breaker issue, and I should just replace it? Any guidance would be appreciated! Thanks!

It sounds like you should definitely check the voltage at the breaker itself. If you've got 120V on just one side, that suggests it might be time to replace your breaker, especially if everything else in that section of your panel is good. If you’ve verified that, but half your breakers are still dead, it’s worth looking into the main power coming in. If that's also just showing 120V, you might need to reach out to your power company for assistance.

Good luck! This could turn into a phase problem too, so keep that in mind.

Yeah, definitely start by testing the voltage at the breaker. You don't want to miss anything simple. Also, if you're seeing corrosion on the breaker, that's a big sign that it might be faulty!
