Looking for Tips to Fix Up My Grandparents’ Abandoned House

Hi everyone! My husband and I are thinking about making an offer on my grandparents' house, which has been sitting empty since my grandmother passed away around 12 years ago. Everything inside, from the kitchens to the bathrooms and even the stairs, needs a complete overhaul. We realize we can't do everything ourselves, but we're hoping to learn how to tackle some of the repairs on our own. Does anyone have suggestions for resources or learning materials? We're located in California. Thanks a bunch!

First off, clarify what needs to be fixed. Are we talking about issues with functionality or just aesthetics? If it’s a necessity, learning from YouTube or even hiring someone for a day to teach you the ropes can be super beneficial.

That's a good point! I didn't think about the difference between functional and aesthetic repairs. I'll definitely check out those tutorials!

You’re right! Understanding the core issues will guide your approach. Don’t dive in without knowing the extent of the repairs needed.

Consider volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. It’s a great way to gain hands-on experience while helping others. Plus, they often offer workshops on home repair skills.

For learning, YouTube is gold! Try channels like ‘Home RenoVision DIY’. They offer loads of tips suitable for beginners. I’ve picked up so much from that channel alone!

Awesome! I've heard of that channel. I'll make sure to check it out.
