I recently bought my boyfriend a beautiful Thai Constellation Monstera as a birthday gift, but I know he's worried about taking care of it since he's never owned one before. To help him out, I'm putting together a little care guide along with a hydrometer and some well-draining soil. Since I'm new to houseplants too, I'd love any tips or advice you all might have!

I just got my Thai Con about a month ago, and I've learned they can be prone to root rot, so drainage is key. I suggest a clear pot to keep an eye on the roots and soil. When I repot, I’m planning to use a mix of coconut coir, orchid mix, and regular potting soil with some added perlite. I'm using Miracle Grow for fertilizers but planning to give it a break during winter since it's a dormant period. I’ll make sure to bottom water it too for a good start!
Less is definitely more when it comes to watering Thai Constellations!
Noted! Thank you 🙂
I totally agree about the soil water meter—they're inexpensive and help prevent over or under watering! I can't live without mine on every floor.
I've found soil meters to be pretty unreliable, honestly. I stick my finger down about 2 inches or just pick up the pot to check how dry the soil is.
Thai Constellations are amazing! It's great that you're making a care guide. For starters, make sure you use well-draining soil and choose a pot with good drainage holes. They thrive in bright, indirect light, but keep an eye on the plant when he first gets it since the white parts of the leaves can be more sensitive and may burn easily. Also, before watering, check the top inch of the soil to make sure it's completely dry!
Thank you so much!! I will add this info in. So helpful ?
