I just bought a house that has a patch of Giant Reeds, and they're thriving at about 4-6 feet tall. I'm torn between keeping them for potential use or clearing the space for something else. The patch is around 5x10 feet, and I've got half an acre to work with. Any advice on whether I should keep them or get rid of them?

Are they Arundo donax? If so, they can be amazing! I’ve grown fond of my patch—they create a great windbreak and look kinda prehistoric! Plus, you can craft with them like make furniture since they’re so sturdy and easy to work with.
That's a tricky decision! I totally get wanting to keep a lush patch of reeds, but I’ve heard they can spread really quickly and be a pain to eradicate later on. Might want to think about the long-term impact before deciding!
Yeah, it sounds like keeping them could backfire if you don’t manage them right. Maybe trimming them back could be a temporary fix until you figure out your plans.

I’m not sure yet! I just moved in a few months ago, so I’m still getting to know my plants. How fast do they spread? I’d like to keep an eye on them, especially if it’s tough to control.
