Should I Paint My Home Before Selling It?

I'm preparing to sell my house, and I've been getting advice to paint the interior a grey or white color. However, I'm really hesitant about this because my home has a unique vibe that I think would clash with those colors. Right now, the walls are painted in warm bronzes and browns, which I think give a cozy feel. I'm worried that if potential buyers walk in and see grey, it might feel off to them. I honestly don't want to go through the hassle and expense of painting if it's not necessary. Do you all think I should stick with my current colors, or is it a must to go neutral with grey or white? Definitely avoid grey! A warmer white could work, but there are so many other options that won't just wash out the space. I painted my walls a very light green from Sherwin Williams and it's practically neutral—it blends in nicely without drawing attention. Look for subtle colors that complement your existing palette instead of just defaulting to white or grey. Your home sounds lovely!

I appreciate that! I’ll explore some other colors instead of thinking I HAVE to do grey or white. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm curious who suggested the painting? Your home looks nice and can really sell itself. Many buyers prefer to pick their own colors anyway, so I wouldn’t stress about renovations just for the sale. In fact, your current colors might really charm potential buyers!

It was my agent and some online suggestions that made me consider it!

I totally get your reluctance to go grey. Your house has such a warm vibe, so a cooler color might not do it justice. If you're worried about losing the cozy feel, maybe consider a warm neutral like a soft beige or a warm white that has some brown undertones. You could even put the house on the market as is! If you get good feedback, there's no need to paint. But if it’s slow to sell, then a fresh coat in a warmer tone could really help.
