Can I Anchor a Shade Sail to My House?

I'm thinking about putting a shade sail in my backyard, and I want to know if it's okay to anchor two points to my house. The shape of my backyard makes it difficult to find other spots for the anchors. I'm planning to install poles in the ground with concrete for the other anchor points. However, for the ones against the house, I'm considering using corner brackets or a wall plate. I've read that anchor points should withstand 200lbs and can handle up to 2000lbs during storms, so I'm a bit worried about anchoring it to the house.

It's definitely doable to anchor a shade sail to your house, but make sure you're attaching it to something solid like a wall stud or a roof rafter. Avoid just using siding or brick because those won't hold up under pressure. Using heavy-duty hardware is essential, and if you expect strong winds, consider having a removable setup or turnbuckles for adjustments. This way, you can release some tension when needed to avoid damage.

Exactly! I would be super cautious about that. I made the mistake of not securing properly, and it cost me big time to repair damage.

I've successfully anchored two corners of my shade sail to my house, and it works great! Just make sure you’re using proper hardware. I used eye hooks that went through the fascia into the roofing rafter, which have held up well against wind. Just keep in mind to use decent poles for the other points, something sturdy like 1/4 inch thick, to avoid bending during storms.

Totally agree on the pole thickness! I had some lightweight poles once, and they bowed so much I had to replace them.
