How do I calculate the square footage for my stairs?

I'm looking for some help with calculating the square footage of my staircase. The stairs are 38 inches wide, 5.5 inches tall with a 1-inch overhang, and each step is 12 inches deep. There are a total of 14 steps. Any tips on how to figure this out?

If you’re trying to figure out how much flooring you need, just stick to the flat square footage covered by the stairway itself. That'll help you know how much laminate to buy for replacing the carpet!

You might want to check out products like capatread or versa trim for stair covering. Just make sure you order enough for your 14 stairs, and installation should be a breeze!

To get the square footage for your staircase, you can use the formula: width x depth x number of steps, then divide by 144 to convert to square feet. So, 12 inches (depth) x 38 inches (width) x 14 steps gives you 6344 cubic inches, which is about 44 square feet. Don't forget to account for waste, just in case you mess up some cuts!
