I'm looking to buy my very first plunge router and am curious about your recommendations. What models are you currently using? Which ones would you suggest for a beginner?

I've got a Bosch 1617, which I find super reliable. It usually stays in my router table, but I'll take it out for more complex tasks. If you're just starting out, I think it's a solid choice. But I've also heard great things about the Milwaukee M18 trim router; it's more compact and handy for smaller jobs.
Yeah, I’ve heard it’s great for intricate work, though not quite the powerhouse for larger projects.
It really depends on what you'll be doing with it. If you plan on mounting it in a table, something like a Makita 3 1/4hp would be excellent. If you're mainly using it handheld, consider a smaller trim router for better control. I love my Makita for its balance and power.
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll keep that in mind based on my needs.
I’ve heard nothing but good about the Makita! Definitely worth considering for bigger projects.
For something budget-friendly yet effective, I recommend checking out the Rigid routers. They have a great warranty and perform well. But if you want something high-end, the Festool routers are top-notch, especially the 1400 model. They’re really smooth and durable!
Good point! I’ll look into both options.
True, Festool is amazing! Just be careful with the price tag. But worth it if you can afford it.

Nice, sounds like a reliable pick! How's the power on the Milwaukee for heavier tasks?
