I'm currently deciding on what type of compost to get for my new garden beds. I'm considering mushroom compost, which costs $60 a yard, but I'd need two truckloads since they can't split the delivery. On the other hand, leaf compost is cheaper at $40-50 a yard and can be delivered in one truck, saving me about $100 overall. I've previously added spent mushroom bricks to the bottom of the beds, and while I'm not sure if the mushroom compost is worth the extra money, I'd like to hear your thoughts. I also dug out each bed to maintain drainage due to my clay-heavy soil. I'm really looking for some insights or experiences to help make my decision!

Definitely check out the analysis for mushroom compost before you decide. Different producers can have wildly different nutrient levels. The nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium content can make a huge difference, especially with fertilizer costs rising. If the analysis shows high pH with excess calcium, I'd suggest leaning towards Leafgro since you already have success with it.
I've used Leafgro before and it's pretty solid stuff. As for mushroom compost, just make sure you know the source, as quality can vary. I've seen some with really high pH levels, which can throw off your garden a bit. If it’s really high in calcium, it might not be worth it for you. Given the price difference and since you've had good experiences with Leafgro, I'd say that's a safer bet!
Thanks for the tip! Good to know about the pH levels. I've stuck with Leafgro for years and it usually works well for me.

I appreciate that advice! I actually have a bag of fertilizer I got on sale, so I'm more worried about the compost itself. I think I’ll stick with Leafgro for now.
