Hey everyone! I recently picked up some Miracle-Gro Potting Mix for my flower garden, but it's proving to be hydrophobic. No matter how much water I give it, it just rolls off the surface. I'm looking for reliable, non-hydrophobic soil that can actually absorb water and help my plants thrive. Any recommendations for brands or specific types of soil that work well and avoid this issue?

For bagged mixes, I’ve had great experiences with Bumper Crop soils found at nurseries. Fox Farms is another option, though it can get a bit pricey. They both have a good reputation for avoiding hydrophobic issues.
You can’t go wrong with compost! I recommend trying Blue Ribbon Organics. You’ll find it really helps with water retention.
Make sure to soak it properly! If your soil is dry, try mixing it with water in a bucket before potting. Hydrophobic soil often happens when peat dries out completely, so it's not just about the brand you choose.

Thanks for the tips! I’ll check out the Bumper Crop soils next time I'm at the nursery.
