I recently had one of my basement windows break, and when I reached out for a repair, the first person told me they couldn't just replace the broken glass because it's a special argon glass window. They said I need to replace the whole window, which will cost me $1050. Does anyone know if this is typical or if there are alternatives?

That replacement cost sounds a bit excessive to me. There's no law stating you have to use an argon-filled double or triple-pane unit if yours broke. I've had similar double-pane glass units replaced in different buildings, and it usually costs around $300 each. Depending on how big your window is, you might want to consider just getting a new one altogether instead of just the glass. You can check options at places like Lowe's.
