How to Light Up a Downstairs Room Without Overhead Lights?

I have an office located downstairs and unfortunately, there's no overhead lighting installed. It's always pretty dim, and with just two lamps, I'm really struggling to get enough light in there. I'm looking for suggestions or options to brighten up the space. I've thought about adding track lighting to the center of the room, but I'd need to cover the wiring as it would run up the wall. Alternatively, I'm considering wall-mounted lights to keep the setup less conspicuous. Does anyone know if it's feasible to run electrical wiring for a ceiling light without having to cut into the drywall? Here's a link to a picture of the room for reference: https://imgur.com/a/ws6wsdW

An electrician should definitely be able to set up a ceiling light without needing to tear much drywall. Make sure to ask them about their methods—some can work things out to minimize damage. Just keep in mind that there might be some holes needed, especially if the access isn't great. Planning well might save you a headache later!

It's essential to figure out the direction of your floor joists first. If you can run the cable parallel to them, it might make the job easier. Just a heads up, using armored cable can help avoid issues if it drags across any drywall. And yeah, be prepared for a few access holes; you might want to think about repainting the ceiling afterward to keep it looking nice!
