I'm curious if anyone from Ontario has faced issues with battery storage capacity limits under the electrical code. I was chatting with an installer and considering a large system to charge both of our EVs, which have a total capacity of 140 kWh. However, one installer mentioned that the Ontario electrical code caps battery storage at 80 kWh, and that's for completely detached garages. I find this hard to believe, especially since I have 140 kWh in my attached garage without issues. Has anyone else come across this restriction, and does it really make sense?

I’m not sure how they let you have that much in your attached garage! The Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) got updated in 2024, allowing up to 40 kWh for indoor setups, but before that, it was just 1 kWh. Seems like you might be getting some mixed information about the limits depending on where you're looking!

Yeah, that’s what I took from it too! If your EVs are in the attached garage, that might be part of why you're not facing the same restrictions. It could be worth double-checking the specific code guidelines!
