I'm trying to power some lights in my enclosed trailer using a 20V battery, but I need to safely drop the voltage to 12V DC. I'm a bit confused about which 12V setup you're talking about. DeWalt tools come with built-in Battery Management Systems (BMS) to prevent over-discharge, but if you're using knockoff tools or something unusual, you'll need to manage discharges yourself.
You can use any battery dock you like, but make sure to add a fuse holder along with a Low Voltage Disconnect (LVD) before the buck regulator. This will help keep your battery safe by cutting off power before it discharges too low.
