I recently saw a video that showed some brown, fibrous soil being soaked in water overnight before seeds were planted. Does anyone know what this kind of soil is called?

That sounds like coco coir! It's a popular choice for gardening since it holds moisture really well and is great for seed starting.
Is that the same stuff used in aerogardens?
