Hey everyone! So I had a bit of a mishap this week when some water leaked in my bag and got onto my 2017 MacBook Air A1466. I've left it to dry, and it turns on to the login page, which is a plus! However, the keyboard isn't working anymore, and the backlight is out, plus the trackpad is dead (I can use a USB mouse though). I'm planning to move my files to a new laptop, but I'd like to know if it's possible to fix this one myself. I'm eager to learn and think it could be a fun project, even though I don't have much experience with electronics. Is it worth diving into? Any advice would be super helpful! Thanks a bunch! 🙂

You might want to think carefully before jumping in. It could be something simple like corrosion that cleaning it up with some isopropyl alcohol could fix. However, if it’s more severe, you’d need tools like a microscope, soldering equipment, and multiple replacement parts to fully address the issues. It could turn into quite an investment in both time and money. So, unless you’re really into electronics as a hobby, maybe consider if this is the right first project for you.
Check out forums specific to MacBook repairs for tips, they could provide some useful guides. But, good luck with whatever you decide!
Honestly, it might just be easier to move on and find a new laptop. Apple hardware can be a pain to deal with, and fixing water damage can be tricky. If you really love a challenge, go for it, but don't be surprised if you run into major issues.
