What Should I Know Before Diving into Plant Care?

I'm looking to start getting into houseplants and would love some advice! Specifically, what are some crucial things you wish you had known before you started your plant journey? For instance, I've learned that it's super important to understand pests and think about how to manage them from the beginning. What other tips do you have?

One of the best pieces of advice I got was to start slow! Don't go overboard and buy tons of plants before you get a handle on caring for the ones you have. Think about your space, the sunlight it gets, and your patience for keeping pests in check before picking plants. Make sure you choose species that thrive in your home environment instead of just going for trendy ones that might not survive. My big mistake was buying beautiful climbing philodendrons—they looked great, but without the right setup, they never really thrived for me. Also, give it a full year to really see how a plant does through all the seasons!

Honestly, if I could do it again, I might just not start! I've become addicted, and my wallet is feeling it! But really, take it slow and find what works for you. And don't forget about lighting—having a good grow light can significantly improve your plant's health and happiness!

Haha, I totally feel you! I went through so many plants in the beginning because I didn't know better. It's like I was handing over cash for a plant funeral every week.
