I'm trying to remove mastic from a cement floor, and I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good solvent that will help dissolve it. I need to scrape it off, and I want to make the process easier. Any suggestions?

Another option is diesel. It can work wonders for tough adhesives.

You might want to try using a 6" razor scraper. If the mastic is type 1, it should be water-soluble, so maybe just some warm water would do the trick!

This is what worked for me! I mixed vinegar with water and used the razor scraper. It helped a lot!

If you're dealing with black mastic, be sure to test it for asbestos first! Better to be safe.

Oh no, I actually have thinset mastic—the premixed kind in a tub. No asbestos worries there!
