Hey everyone, I'm a DIY homeowner working on a closet makeover and while removing a wall, I noticed some damage to the Romex jacket coming out of the ground. I don't think I caused it, but it looks like it might have rubbed against the wood. The inner sheath seems okay. Do I need to splice it, or can I just cover it with electrical tape? There's enough slack to pull the cable a few feet up, so I could box it up for easy access later. Should I just go with tape or is it better to call in an electrician? Honestly, it looks like it’s all good! Just wrap it up with some quality vinyl electrical tape, and you should be fine. No need to overthink it!
If it were me, I’d just give it a couple of wraps with electrical tape and call it finished. The brown paper underneath doesn't look damaged at all, so looks like an easy fix!
Yeah, as long as it's not exposed wires or major damage, tape is usually enough.
From what I understand, small tears like that can be easily fixed with listed electrical tape, especially since the paper lining seems unbroken. That’s probably the best route! But there are also non-metallic splices you could use, though they can be pricier than just boxing it up.
It’s just the outer jacket that's damaged, so wrapping it with a good amount of electrical tape should do the job perfectly!
I’d say go for some white vinyl electrical tape and you’re set! It should handle it without a hitch.
Totally agree! As long as the inner sheath is intact, a little tape should do the trick.
