Do Old Seeds Still Have a Chance to Grow?

I just discovered some old seed packets in my desk, and they're from 2017. I'm not sure if they'll still sprout, but I'm thinking about trying to plant them. The seeds are for cilantro, garden beans, peppers, and lettuce. I plan to grow them indoors in pots since we have large windows for sunlight. Any tips would be appreciated! Also, my cat loves cilantro, so I'm especially keen on getting that to grow while making sure he doesn't nibble too much on it.

Some of those seeds might still germinate! As seeds age, their viability decreases, but they could still surprise you. Just to give you some hope, scientists even managed to grow a tree from a 2000-year-old seed!

Damn, science is cool.

You could try pressing a few seeds between damp napkins and waiting a few days to see if any sprout. It’s a good way to check their viability before planting them all!

Thanks for the tip!

I heard that if the seeds have been stored in the right conditions, they should germinate similarly to fresh seeds, just maybe a bit slower. This is especially true for annuals and veggies. So it's worth a shot!
