Should I Replace Hardwood with Tile in My Mudroom?

I'm about to buy a new home that has hardwood flooring throughout, which I really love. However, I have a small mudroom and half bath at the back of the house that can be seen from the dining space, and they currently have hardwood as well. I'm considering swapping the hardwood for porcelain tile since this area leads to the backyard and, in the winter, we get quite a bit of snow. I'm worried the wood might get damaged from my dogs coming in and out, or just get dirty. What do you all think? Should I stick with hardwood or make the switch to tile?

What about trying LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank) over the hardwood? I know the hardwood purists might not like that, but it gives you the option to switch back later without too much hassle. Plus, you can find some that looks like the tile you’re considering, so it's kind of a win-win!

I don't mind that idea! We’ve been thinking about LVP, especially if it looks like the tile we like. It’d be great to keep the hardwood protected under it.

Honestly, it's smart to recognize that hardwood just won't hold up in a mudroom. You should go for a nice, weatherproof tile that can handle the muck and is easy to clean!
