Where to Find Quality Basswood in the UK?

Hey everyone! I've been into whittling for a couple of years now and I'm on the lookout for a reliable source of good quality, soft basswood. I've tried a bunch of places like Amazon and Hobbycraft, but the quality has been really disappointing. The only brand I've found that works well for me is Beaver Craft, but they don't always have the sizes I need, and their shipping costs to the UK are quite high. If anyone has any good recommendations on where to buy basswood, I would really appreciate it! Thanks! ?

Have you checked with local timber yards or mills? Sometimes they can have some hidden gems, even though it seems weird to look for wood there.

I hadn't thought about that! I’ll definitely give the local timber mills a try!

I found a site called Classic Hand Tools that has a range of basswood, which is often referred to as limewood over in Europe. Just a heads-up though, I checked and it looks like they’re currently out of stock.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll keep an eye on it for when they restock!

If you can't find anything locally, I recommend checking out Timberline. They offer both American basswood and the English lime, but just so you know, the English lime is a bit harder compared to the softer basswood.
