Trouble Mounting My TV: What’s Behind the Wall?

I've been struggling to locate a stud in my apartment wall to mount my TV. The strange thing is that when I use the stud finder, it indicates a stud, but I only encounter a hard yet thin layer behind the drywall, which doesn't seem to be metal. At other spots, there's just insulation. Has anyone experienced this? Any thoughts on how the drywall might be mounted?

It sounds like you could have metal studs in your walls instead of the standard wooden ones. They can sometimes be a bit tricky but you’d need to use different anchors, like toggle bolts instead of lag bolts. It's crucial for securing something as heavy as a 75-inch TV, which is about 120 lbs.

Yeah, I've read that some places use a sheet of metal instead of traditional studs. It’s definitely possible that it's spaced every 16 inches, but you’ll want to make sure to use heavy-duty anchors since it could give you enough support for your TV. Just be cautious about how much weight you're relying on it to hold!
