I've got this old tire planter where my precious onions are growing, and unfortunately, stray cats have been using the dirt as their litter box during the winter. I really want to keep these onions for summer meals. I'm concerned about the risk of toxoplasmosis from the cats, and I'm wondering if I can just move the bulbs to a new planter with fresh, clean soil or if it's safer to just toss everything and buy new seeds online instead.

Honestly, I'd worry more about the contaminants from the tire itself than the cats. But if you relocate those bulbs to clean soil, you should be good to go, though they might need some time to adjust before they start growing again. Best of luck with your onions!
I totally get it! I didn't realize tires could be an issue until last summer when mine were halfway grown. My grandma gave me these bulbs, and she also grew them in a tire, so I thought it was fine. Time to dig them up!
